The 2024 Fiesta de Amistad celebrations, annual events taking place all throughout the month of October, are just around the corner.
The Fiesta de Amistad events celebrate the unity and friendship between Del Rio and its sister city, Ciudad Acuña, Coah., Mexico. Andrew Scarbo, president of International Good Neighbor Council (IGNC) of Del Rio, said some of the events are hosted by IGNC, while others are put together by different organizations partnered with IGNC.
“Fiesta de Amistad is all (throughout) the month of October, so it has different events happening all month,” Scarbo said.
Fiesta de Amistad will start with the annual kick-off ceremony at the Ramada Inn on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. The event will reveal the lineup for all the Fiesta de Amistad events, and it will also introduce County Commissioner Pct. 2 Juan Carlos Vazquez as Mr. Amistad and Del Rio
businesswoman Diana Stern as Mrs. Amistad.
The next event will be on Oct. 12, a marathon, half marathon, 10k and a 5k at the Val Verde County Courthouse. The events will be hosted by the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness organization, a local non-profit group.
On Oct. 24 at 6 p.m., there will be the annual mayor’s reception at the Del Rio Civic Center. The public reception is put together by the city’s top elected official to thank the public for all the work being done for the Fiesta de Amistad celebrations.
The Annual Abrazos Ceremony will be at the Amistad Dam on Oct. 25 at 4 p.m., and it is hosted by IGNC. The ceremony celebrates the signing of the binational treaty for the construction of the Amistad Dam 60 years ago.
The Fiesta de Amistad Parade will be on Oct. 26 and will begin at

Scarbo said the parade has been going on for more than 60 years. He also said the parade has become “Del Rio’s largest and most historical parade.”
There will be the Fiesta de Amistad Arts and Craft Fair in Greenwood Park, which will start at 9 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. The fair also continues on Oct. 27.
The last event will be the Fiesta de Amistad Car Show on Oct. 27, which will take place at Greenwood Park beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.
