A warm spring afternoon Thursday with bright sunshine and brilliant blue skies provided a picture-perfect backdrop for the first-ever Easter egg hunt at the Judge Antonio “Tony” Faz III County Annex.

Val Verde County Commissioner Pct. 2 Juan Carlos Vazquez and his staff organized the event, welcoming more than 100 children and their parents to the county annex for nearly two hours of fun and excitement at the annex, 315 E. Chapoy St.
Vazquez’s staff, including members of the Precinct 2 work crew, scattered hundreds of brightly colored plastic Easter eggs on the ground of the county annex courtyard. A few of the eggs, labeled as “golden eggs,” contained extra-special prizes.
Vazquez welcomed everyone to the event in English and Spanish, saying, “Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome, everybody, to the Antonio ‘Tony’ Faz County Annex, 315 E. Chapoy. I want to make a special invitation to ask everyone to visit the county branch library while you’re here, where we have over 5,000 books, and which is part of our county library downtown.”
Vazquez asked parents to bring their children in to register at the library, noting the library also has computers available for adults and young people to use.
Vazquez went over the “rules of engagement” for the Easter egg hunt. He said children ages five years old and under were invited to participate in the first round.
After the younger children raced around the courtyard, plucking eggs from the ground, Vazquez’s staff scattered several hundred more plastic eggs for the second round of hunting, for youngsters five years old and up.
Volunteers, including JoAnn Faz, the widow of the former justice of the peace for whom the county annex was named, handed out bags filled with candy and other goodies and juice boxes to all the children participating.
Vazquez said after the event he was extremely pleased with the turnout, adding he hopes to make the Easter egg hunt an annual event.
