COMMUNITY — Hispanic chamber to present inaugural ‘Above & Beyond Awards’

From Staff Reports

The Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is known for giving back to the community. Now, the chamber will honor several individuals who stood out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chamber will present its “Above & Beyond Awards” at a luncheon Friday, May 21, at noon at the Ramada’s Sunblossom Room. For those attending, masks will be required and social distancing will be required.

According to Isidro Valdez Fernandez, Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President, these awards are being presented to shine a light on those individuals who helped to serve the community during the pandemic.

“What has occurred in our community in spite of COVID-19 has been admirable as small businesses and organizations continue to function by following COVID protocol. Nevertheless, even under these dire circumstances, we decided to honor those members and friends who have gone above and beyond giving of their talents to serve our community,” Fernandez said.

This is the inaugural presentation of these awards. The chamber typically presents its Businessman, Businesswoman and Business of the Year awards at its annual Masquerade Ball, but the event was canceled due to the pandemic.
