It was a Barbie world in Del Rio Saturday when Mesquite Creek Outfitters hosted a Barbie-themed evening with food and drinks inspired by the 2023 movie.
Fans of the movie dressed up in pink and MCO provided a pre-made light-up Barbie box for fans to take photos in.
Pepper Bernal, manager of Mesquite Creek Outfitters, said they like to come up with fun ideas and events for people to enjoy. She said it is exciting to be part of the Barbie trend and see people dress in pink and use their photo booth to take photos.
“It’s crazy because you start to notice lots of pink throughout the month, so it’s pretty cool,” Bernal said.
Bernal said they made a special drink called a “Barbie-tini” that they’ve been serving throughout the month of July to celebrate the release of the Barbie movie. Besides the refreshments made at the bar, food was also being sold by the D&A Hibachi Express LLC food truck parked outside and pastries made by the Sleeping Lady Bakery.
Andrea Gomez, pastry chef for the Sleeping Lady Bakery, said she got in touch with Mesquite Creek Outfitters to sell Barbie-themed cupcakes, including a strawberry lemon bar, sugar cookies and more pastries covered in pink and glitter.
Jessica Aguirre-Fuentes attended and said she follows MCO’s social media and was excited for their Barbie-themed event. Aguirre saw the movie twice and said it is a fun movie for older audiences and teenagers to enjoy.
Mackenzie Adkins showed up at MCO with a group of friends in pink shirts. Adkins saw the movie and while it was funny, she said it was also a deep movie about what it is like to be a woman in modern society.
