Whether it is the poetry of a mustang in gallop or the sublime beauty of the southwest landscape, Cheryl Koen’s heart and soul reflect the spirit of the west and its inhabitants.
Koen, who currently resides in Fredericksburg, is the featured artist for the June 2 First Friday Art Walk from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, located at 100 W. Greenwood.
Koen has held a fascination for drawing and painting since she was a small child. She has always been a doodler and has drawn countless horses and heads of people. In her paintings she strives not only to create a mood, but looks for the beautiful light and strives to convey a sense of places through a colorful palette.
In the preview of her one woman show, the Houston Chronicle wrote, “Koen’s thick brushwork blends Impressionist and Realist influences-kind of blown out Frederick Remington style. She paints in plein air, with brilliant colors that convey a high noon sensibility. High Key color and dazzling sunlight are trademarks of Cheryl’s paintings. “
Koen is certainly an outstanding, award winning, artist, having won Awards of Excellence, many First and Best of Show as well as Honorable Mentions. She is a member of Women Artist of The West, Outdoor Painters Society Plein Air Southwest, and American Impressionist Society just to mention a few.
Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery is planning an exciting fun time for all you art enthusiast, with hors d’oeuvres and refreshing beverages being served, while each and everyone is enjoying the beautiful art produced by Cheryl Koen. The paintings by Koen will be on exhibit at Lee-Bunch for the duration of the month of June.
