A family of four Del Rio sisters was looking for an opportunity to gain some valuable life experience, make some money and have some fun in the process.

With some help from their parents, and a steady stream of customers, they took advantage of the Texas heat and offered some tasty relief in the form of a homemade lemonade stand and a host of beverages.

The sisters – Keziah, Elaine, Hailey and Adley Bishop – spent their free time Saturday selling fresh lemonade in their neighborhood on Medicine Bow Trail. Keziah Bishop, the oldest of the siblings, said she and her sisters were not saving money for anything in particular. They wanted to sell lemonade because they thought it would be fun.

The sisters sold different flavors including regular lemonade and strawberry. They also sold sweet tea and Arnold Palmers (a mixed drink with sweet tea and lemonade). Keziah said they had a great turn out and customers left the stand happy.

“A lot of people came out to support us and buy a lot of lemonade,” Keziah said. “We’re a working to together, and we learned to be interactive (with customers).”

The girls had help from their parents, Jesse and Sophia Bishop. Jesse, a Del Rio firefighter, helped find a wooden platform and shared his daughters’ summer venture through a Facebook post. He said the girls wanted to be productive and not just sit around the house all day.

“I can’t stop little business owners from wanting to start up. This is their first start and let’s see how it goes,” father Jesse said.

Sophia Bishop said she helped prepare the lemonade stand and paint the signs for her daughters. Including being kind and smiling to their customers, Sophia said the best advice she gave her daughters is to appreciate the experiences they are given.

“I told them to be very grateful,” Sophia said. “Not all kids have the opportunity to do this, so they should be grateful for what they have.”

Friends and coworkers shared the post to support the Bishop family. As news spread, Jesse said they’d had nothing but good comments with strawberry lemonade and the Arnold Palmers being the most popular.

Kade Cadena, a fire rescue officer who works with Jesse, was invited with his crew to support their coworker’s family. Like many of the previous customers, the group went with Arnold Palmers. With a busy schedule, Cadena said it was a great idea to take a break and get a cold refreshment on a hot summer day.

“I’m enjoying it,” Cadena said. “It is nice to come down on a Saturday and support the community and hangout.”
