The First Friday Art Walk, March 4, at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, 100 W. Greenwood, will be featuring the plein air artwork of artists Chuck and Barbara Mauldin of Fredericksburg Texas, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

These paintings were created during Chuck and Barbara’s most recent trip to Big Bend National Park, which was just a month or so ago.  The Mauldins will be exhibiting the premier showing of these plein air pieces along with the actual photos of the landscape that they were painting.  This will allow the viewer to experience the artist’s interpretation of the scene.  You can have ten, twenty or more artists painting the same thing and the finished paintings will all be different due to the fact no two people see things exactly in the same way.

Most of you don’t need an introduction to Chuck and Barbara or their art works, being that the Mauldins are permanent exhibitors at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, so some of their work is always available for viewing or purchase.   However, for those that have not had the opportunity to meet the Mauldins let me give you a quick overview of their history.  Both, Chuck and Barbara are native Texans, Chuck growing up in the cattle ranching business around Dallas and Barbara in the farming industry of Houston.  They met at the University of Texas in Austin where Chuck was completing his chemistry degrees and Barbara was studying on her biology degree.  Upon graduating and their marriage, they moved to Louisiana where Chuck did research for ExxonMobil Process Research Labs in Baton Rouge and presently holds 55 U.S. patents in the field of catalysis. Barbara promptly began raising their three children while also pursing a career in art, eventually teaching art for 12 years at Baton Rouge Lutheran School.

After 28 years in Baton Rouge and their children now grown, Chuck and Barbara moved back to Texas in 2005, to Fredericksburg to pursue their passion for art on a full-time basis. The Mauldins have continued to hone their painting skills and take workshops from some of the most prestigious artists in the U.S.  Needless to say both Chuck’s and Barbara’s interest in art have always been a part of the fabric of their lives since their childhood.

Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery will furnish beverages and hors d’oeuvres during the art walk hours of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and exhibit daily the stunning artwork of local, area and regional renowned Texas artists. The daily hours for Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery are Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to around 6:30 p.m. and by appointment only on Saturdays. Lee-Bunch Studio also provides custom matting and framing for the art of your home or office.
