Community — McAlister’s opens doors in Del Rio

A small group of people gathered in front of McAlister’s Deli Monday morning to welcome the new franchise to Del Rio.

The line started early for those who love McAlister’s tea, as the chain offered one free tea per week for a year, for the first 100 guests each day through Friday.

Sol Mall at 2211 Veterans Blvd. While City of Del Rio Mayor Al Arreola Sr.; Jorge Ramon, City of Del Rio Economic Development Director; two council members and chamber members were waiting to snip the ribbon; nearly 40 more people were lined along the wall hoping to get a free glass of tea per week for a year. 

Tea or no tea, many were just excited to have another eating option in town. 

Lex Garcia-Hendrix, McAlister’s Del Rio general manager and a Del Rio native, said, “The first time I tried the McAllister’s food, I thought it was some of the best I’d had,” he said. “I’m so happy to be able to bring it to my hometown.”

Management of the nearly 3,000-square foot “deli” hired about 100 staff members to get the restaurant up and going. 

The food is considered an American fast casual chain and the menu focuses on serving deli-style sandwiches and baked potatoes. They also offers soups, entree salads, starters, potatoes and neumerou9s other deli-style items. 

They open every day at 10:30 a.m. and close at 9 p.m., except Friday and Saturday when they stay open until 10 p.m.

The restaurant chain has over 500 locations across the United States and 102 in Texas.

Arby’s, sharing a roof with McAlister’s, will open Thursday, June 1.
