Mayor Al Arreola recently proclaimed February 2024 as “The Miss Val Verde Pageant Ambassador Month.”

Arreola read the proclamation honoring the pageant ambassadors during the Feb. 27 city council meeting.

Arreola said he was honored to present the proclamation.

“These young ladies go to cities for every event that we have for almost everything. I think they are out there representing us. For me it is an honor to present this proclamation to these young beauties. So I want to thank you,” Arreola said.

Arreola then read the following proclamation:

“Whereas, the young women who participate in this Miss Val Verde Pageant annually epitomize the finest traditions through their talent, charm, advocacy, and beauty; and

“Whereas, in preparation for the Miss Val Verde Pageant, we ‘recognize the initiative, service and achievement in them’ these outstanding young women will be the leaders of the volunteerism in our community, sharing a combined 1,000 hours of service and advocacy projects, and

“Whereas, the Miss Val Verde Pageant is designed to prepare participating young women for the future by reinforcing the importance of education, character and community service while expanding their cultural and social horizons through various workshops, speakers and friendly competition; and

“Whereas, we are encouraged to know that the Miss Val Verde Pageant family is working tirelessly to serve the people of the county of Val Verde. We commend and thank your work and hope that the community sees the Miss Val Verde Pageant in conjunction with Queens for A Cause as a valuable community, collaborating partner.

“Now, therefore, I, Alvaro A. Arreola, Mayor of the City of Del Rio, Texas, do hereby proclaim the month of February ‘The Miss Val Verde Pageant Ambassador Month’ and urge all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs hosted by the Miss Val Verde Pageant.”

Arreola was joined by the pageant members, including Claudia Lopez Cruz, pageant director, to come up and present the proclamation in front of the city council.

Cruz said the Miss Val Verde Pageant is celebrating its 44th anniversary this year, and they have a lot of projects lined up for the community to look forward to.
