United Medical Centers of Del Rio hosted a patient appreciation event at the Del Rio Civic Center on Wednesday.
In celebration of National Health Center Week, UMC staffers set up a variety of booths and activities in the Pecan Ballroom area in the civic center with a safari-themed atmosphere to welcome families.
Lydia Olvera, clinic manager for UMC in Del Rio, said their event is held once a year so the UMC staff can show appreciation to the patients who visit their local clinics.
“This is a good collaboration. It gets all the patients in here, and we celebrate and have fun,” Olvera said.
The event offered a variety of services to the patients who attended, including family planning, vaccine services, an in-house referral department, an in-house pharmacy and an in-house lab for x-rays.
Other non-medical-related activities were also set up, including games for kids, a cakewalk and a raffle for families to win prizes including bicycles, headphones and tablets.
Several other organizations were also part of the event, including U.S. Border Patrol, Val Verde County Veterans Service Office and Ventanilla de Salud Del Rio, Texas.
Free food was given out by UMC members and El Tacon Madre food truck.
There are four UMC sites in Del Rio: the Bedell Avenue Clinic, the Del Rio Main Street Clinic, the East Academy Clinic and the San Felipe Clinic. A new clinic will be opening next month, and it will be located at 3809 Veterans Blvd.
