Sunday, plenty of Del Rio residents will be deep into a turkey-and-sides fog, enjoying the slow, comfortable recovery that follows Thanksgiving weekend. However, Del Rio’s Pla-Mor Entertainment has the perfect lure to get people out of their homes and on a hard charging start to the week.
The bowling center is hosting its Turkey Bowl Bowling Tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, offering an $800 first-place prize and NFL games playing on the big screens throughout the afternoon. Check-in opens at noon, and teams will consist of five players and have a $200 entry fee.
“We are offering a lot of different options to people,” said Tristan Vela, co-owner. “We like to offer people a place to safely have fun with family and friends.”
Participants will get a 10-minute warm-up session before competition begins. The tournament will follow a 9-pin no-tap format, meaning a bowler who knocks down nine pins—or all ten—on the first ball will be credited with a strike.
Entry is $200 per team, with prizes including $800 for first place, $200 for second, and $50 each for the top male and top female bowlers. Vela said the payout is based on having 12 teams in the tournament.
The event will be held at Pla-Mor Entertainment, 1201 N. Bedell Avenue.
Pla-Mor offers more than bowling tournaments on the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. Pla-Mor Del Rio opens daily at noon and stays open until midnight.
On any given day you can enjoy bowling on their 16-lane setup, with hourly rates varying depending on the time and day of the week.
Beyond bowling, the state-of-the-art venue offers arcade games and a laser-tag arena, making it ideal for families, groups of friends or weekend gatherings.
