COMMUNITY — Running, dancing and Christmas shopping this weekend

Ugly Sweater Run – The Del Rio PTSD Awareness Organization, a non-profit organization, will be hosting a 5k and a 10k run at Pocket Park, 614 Main, on Sat., Dec. 21, beginning at 9 a.m.

Bruno Lozano, president of the PTSD Awareness Organization, said they are accepting unwrapped, unopened gifts during the Ugly Sweater Run. He said the toys will be donated to the annual Community Angels project on Sunday, Dec. 22.

Lozano said the event is free, and attendees are encouraged to wear Christmas sweaters and festive holiday gear during the run.

Nutcracker Ballet – The Del Rio Council for the Arts will have dance performances of “The Nutcracker” ballet at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd., on Sat. Dec. 21, with shows at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Nancy O’Brien, executive director of Del Rio Council for the Arts, said the ballet performance will include 30 dancers who have been practicing since August.

The performances will be an hour-and-a-half with an intermission.

O’Brien said tickets will be $10 (children under five are free to enter), and people can purchase tickets with cash or card at the Firehouse, 120 E. Garfield St., or at the Civic Center on opening day (cash only).

Christmas Night Festival – Shop Small Market presents a Christmas-themed market at the San Fe Soccer Training Facility, 402 E. 3rd St., on Sat, Dec 21, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

America Ovalle, owner of Shop Small Market, said there will be 30 vendors at the market, both inside the training facility and outside on East 3rd Street.

Music will be provided by DJ B-Rad, and Ovalle said there will be performances by a matlachines group at 7:30 p.m.

Shane’s Charity Drive – Shane’s Whiskey and Bourbon House, 759 S. Main St., is accepting toys and winter clothes until Sat. Dec. 21.

People who bring a donated item to Shane’s will receive a free beer. The donated toys and clothes will be given to Omnia Casa Infantil, a non-profit organization in Ciudad Acuña, Coah., Mexico.

Luke Gilliam, manager of Shane’s, said this is the first toy drive he has done at his establishment.
