COMMUNITY — San Felipe Lions host first 5K Color Run

More than 100 runners turned out to run along the San Felipe Creek as part of the San Felipe Lions Club 5k Color Run.

A color run is when runners have colored powder thrown at them as they run along the route. The city has held several color runs along the route as part of their Fourth of July activities in past years, but this year the San Felipe Lions stepped up to run it. 

The organization had its share of headaches with the event, a late start, a path that wasn’t real well marked, allowing some runners to blaze

their own trail, but few runners were complaining afterwards.

“It was a fun run,” said Megan Villanueva, who walked in the event. “Some parts of the event didn’t go perfectly but it seemed like everybody had a great time. Plus, the money went to a good cause.

However, organizers were pleased, and the money raised will go towards their community health improvement projects.

James “Jim” Bain, new Lions club president who was enjoying his first day in the role, recognized the challenges they had with the event. “We’ve already got a list of areas we can improve in and we are looking forward to doing this again next year!”
