Several community events held by the United Medical Center took place last week, to honor the employees and patients who have helped support their health centers.
The UMC in Del Rio is celebrating 50 years of being a community health center by giving back to the community during National Health Center Week. The annual celebration started on Aug. 7 where the nation commemorates the hard work being done in all community health centers.
The UMC provides healthcare services to residents in Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Brackettville. Lydia Olvera, clinic manager for the UMC in Del Rio, said. She added that they are having these community events to thank the patients for their support.
The National Health Center Week started on Monday, Aug. 7, with music and games at the Splash Pad at the Rotary Park. Families were invited to bring their kids to play in the castle bounce, face-painting and enter in giveaways for backpacks and other school supplies.
Thursday, Aug. 11, UMC presented a patients-health fair at Del Rio’s Joe Ramos Memorial Center from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The UMC community events ended on Friday, Aug. 12, with UMC Employee’s Appreciation Day. A free luncheon for the UMC staff was held at the La Hacienda Restaurant beginning at 11 a.m.
