Community — Youngsters prep for 83rd Annual 4-H Livestock show and auction

Val Verde County’s 83rd Annual Livestock Show and Premium Auction started today and wraps up Saturday. 

 

Thursday

The event began Thursday evening with the weigh-in for rabbits from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by the arrival deadline for all animals – sheep, goats, and rabbits – by 8 p.m.

 

Friday

Friday’s lineup features a flurry of activities starting at 8 a.m., including the weighing, sifting, classification and grading of market lambs, market goats and breeding goats.

Saturday

Saturday promises more excitement with the judging of market goats followed by market lambs, culminating in the prestigious Champion Drive for these livestock categories. Additionally, the Future 4-Hers Show invites children under 8 years old to participate in showcasing lambs and goats under the guidance of current exhibitors.

The annual barbecue lunch is scheduled from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. The $15 lunch includes a choice of meats: beef brisket, lamb or pork, along with potato salad, bread and beans.

Many winners will be announced at a special awards presentation at 1:30 p.m. The premium auction begins at 2 p.m..
