Council Candidate Profile — Alexandra Falcon Calderon

Question 1: What in your experience, personal or professional, qualifies you for the position of Councilperson At-Large, Place C?

“I’m not new to serving this community, I’ve been doing it my entire career.

“As a small business owner for over 25 years, I’ve built my livelihood on hard work, accountability, and smart financial decisions. I know what it means to balance a budget, meet payroll, and make tough calls. Those same principles are exactly what our city government needs.

“My service doesn’t stop there. I’ve been actively involved in organizations like the Del Rio Host Lions Club, the Del Rio Downtown Association, and the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, working alongside others to support our community and responsibly manage resources.

“Most importantly, I’ve already served the people of Del Rio as your City Councilmember for District 3. I understand how City Hall works, and I’m not afraid to ask the tough questions others won’t. I stood up for transparency, pushed for accountability, and made sure every decision was made with the entire community in mind, not just one district.

“I’ve worked through three city budget cycles, giving me real, hands-on experience with the financial challenges and opportunities our city faces. That means I can step in on day one and get to work.

“I’m running for Councilperson At-Large because Del Rio deserves experienced leadership, strong fiscal responsibility, and someone who will speak up for every resident. I’ve done it before and I’m ready to do it again.”

Question 2: What is your vision for this position for the next four years?

“My vision for the next four years is focused on building a stronger, more reliable and more prosperous Del Rio by addressing the issues that impact residents every single day.

“First, we must prioritize infrastructure, starting with our streets. Too many of our roads are in poor condition, and it’s something our community feels daily. I will push for a clear, long-term street improvement plan that is transparent, consistent, and fairly implemented across all neighborhoods.

“Equally important is water infrastructure. Reliable water service is not optional—it’s essential. We need to invest in maintaining and upgrading our water systems to ensure long-term stability, prevent future issues, and support growth.

“Second, I want to strengthen our local economy through intentional economic development. That means supporting our existing small businesses while also actively recruiting new businesses and industries that bring jobs and opportunity to Del Rio. Growth should be strategic and beneficial to our community.

“Tourism is another area where we have untapped potential. From our history to our culture and events, Del Rio has so much to offer. I want to see a stronger focus on tourism development, promoting our city as a destination and bringing in visitors who support local businesses and generate revenue.

“I also believe our downtown area should be a central focus. Revitalizing downtown can create a space where residents and visitors want to gather, shop, and invest. With the right planning and support, downtown Del Rio can become a vibrant hub of activity and pride.

“Just as important as these priorities is staying connected to the people. During my previous time on City Council, I was one of the only members consistently holding town halls to hear directly from residents. That direct communication matters and I plan to continue holding regular town halls so the community always has a voice and a seat at the table.

“Finally, I will continue to advocate for transparency, accountability, and collaboration. These projects require responsible budgeting, open communication, and leadership that is willing to make tough decisions.

“At the end of these four years, my goal is for Del Rio to have safer streets, stronger infrastructure, a growing economy, and a renewed sense of pride in our community. I’m ready to get to work and help move our city forward.”
