A female body was recovered in the Rio Grande Saturday morning by Val Verde County Sheriff’s deputies and Border Patrol agents.
The body was initially discovered about 6 to 7 miles downriver (south) of Del Rio’s International Bridge late Friday evening. “We verified that there was a body there but due to weather and the fact it was dark, the safest time for recovery was this morning,” said Joe Frank Martinez, Val Verde County sheriff.
The discovery was a female body and officials estimated that it had been in the water for about a week or longer.
Martinez said the investigation is ongoing and the body is being sent to Laredo for an autopsy.
