Del Rio Man Arrested for Family Violence Assault and Assault on Police Officer

On August 12, 2026, at approximately 3:07 p.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 100 block of Encinal Street following a 911 call from a female requesting medical assistance for a head injury. The caller did not initially provide details regarding how the injury occurred.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female, who was bleeding from an injury to her fore head. A male subject at the scene, identified as Luis Abel Hernandez, 34, told officers he was not responsible for the female’s injuries.
Emergency Medical Services arrived and provided medical assistance to the injured female. While she was being treated inside the ambulance, officers conducted a field interview and learned that she had been physically assaulted by Hernandez during a disturbance. The investigation revealed that Hernandez assaulted the female, causing the injury to her forehead, and kicked her several times during the incident.
Hernandez was arrested and transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing. Upon arrival at the police station, Hernandez resisted officers by refusing to enter the booking area. During the incident, Hernandez kicked an officer in the chest.
Luis Abel Hernandez, 34, was arrested and charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury / Family Violence, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport, and Assault Peace Officer.
Hernandez was subsequently released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process.
