Del Rio High School Mighty Ram Band Director Dan Wesley White is up for two awards tonight at the historic Grand Ole Opry House during
the 12th annual Josie Music Awards.
White and Kendall Shaw are nominated for Vocal Event of the Year for Male/Female Duo for their song, “When I Drink Baby You Know Things.”
White also received a nomination for Song of the Year — Country Male, Division D, for the same release.
The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. tonight in Nashville, following a red-carpet event scheduled from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
The Josie Music Awards announced that this year’s nominees were selected from more than 101,000 submissions.
White is a Del Rio singer-songwriter, U.S. Army veteran and former Army Band member who now teaches music and directs the Mighty Ram Band.
Del Rio football fans also hear White’s “My Other Family,” his tribute to Friday night lights, football teams and marching bands, played before every Rams game at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
His music combines traditional country with Tex-Mex, Texas swing and rock influences, and he has also used his songwriting to promote awareness of veteran suicide.
“When I Drink Baby You Know Things” was released Jan. 16 and is available on major streaming services.
