Del Rio native makes television pilot

A Del Rio native and DRHS member of Class of 1992  is on the cusp of signing a television deal.

Monday, Irma Linda Ruiz films a comedy pilot episode with ZoomTV Network and then a Facebook Live broadcast she works with, One Bad Livecast, hosted by Israel Garcia, will be filmed Tuesday.

Zoom TV Network is a smart media, technology based digital entertainment company streaming original television, film and music programming on-demand through a variety of digital broadband choices with global distribution, according to their website, www.zoomtvnetwork.com.

In addition, she has a standup special tentatively scheduled with VivaLiveTV.

After finishing college here, she went on to teach for five years at Del Rio Middle School, then 10 years in San Antonio where she now lives before transitioning into full-time comedy.

She’s been building her comedy career for more than 5 years. She is a revered member in the San Antonio Comedy scene, helping many comics navigate off-stage challenges of their comedy careers.

“She has shown me a lot about the off-stage parts of my career,” said Israel Garcia, a fast-rising young Texas comic who’s about to embark on his first national tour with Chingo Bling and Jerry Garcia of HBO Latino.  “She’s shown me how to make things  happen for yourself and how to handle the business side of your career.”

Another comic puts it in easier to understand Southwest Texas terms, “Irma is the high priestess of San Antonio comedy,” said Al Gonzales, who has been seen on Food Network, Game Show Network and NBC.

Ruiz is a full-time stand-up comedian, performing more than 150 shows across the Western United States and produces and promotes a number of shows in Texas.

She is in coordination with DRLaughs about a summer or fall show here.
