Farmer’s Market has big problem

The Del Rio Parks Foundation has a wonderful problem. People are buying out their vendors for their Farmer’s Market and the Foundation’s president wants more vendors.

“We are really impressed with the interest in the Mini Market, but we’d also love to have more produce available like a traditional farmer’s market,”  said Laura Gill, Del Rio Parks Foundation president. “We’ve planted our new beds for fall, so hopefully those will be producing soon, but if there are any farmers or local gardeners who want to join us we’re all for it!”

The majority of the vendors on hand Saturday sold out quickly. The French Girl Bakery sold out of more than 200 macaroons in less than 20 minutes.

“It was busy,” said Liam Stanbridge, who owns the FLOC Food Truck and was selling donuts and a product that is unnamed but is between a churro and a beignet. The product was well received, as he sold out of everything in an hour and 12 minutes. Selling beside him was Contrails Coffee that also also sold out.

“By the end, people were saying, don’t’ care what you have left, just give me something,” Stanbridge said.

Vendors were selling breakfast tacos, locally raised beef from Republic Meat Co., dog and cat treats from Furrfully and Wonderfully Made, coffee from Hikari Coffee Company, eggs and baked goods from Miner Farms, local honey from Robert’s Honey and 100% soy candles from Red Rabbit.

The event is held every third Saturday and the next one is Oct. 17. Vendor information is available by messaging the Parks Foundation Facebook page or calling Christine Miner at (830) 212-9846.
