The Corona Virus has done something only weather could do, cause the cancellation of all Fiesta de Amistad events.
According to Dora Alcala, International Good Neighbor Council past president and former Del Rio mayor, the parade and arts and crafts festival were canceled in 2018 due to bad weather but all other events were held.
The International Good Neighbor Council – Del Rio Chapter has made the difficult decision to cancel the Fiesta de Amistad this year and postpone the Miss Del Rio Pageant until January 23, 2021.
It is with an abundance of caution that the IGNC cancel and postpone these activities due to the severity of the Coronavirus in our community.
Fiesta de Amistad is nearly a month of activities that celebrates the friendship between communities along the border.
“During these unprecedented times, we offer our friendship and support to our sister city, Ciudad Acuna Coahuila as their communities have also suffered greatly due to this pandemic,” the organization said in a press release. “ We look forward to celebrating the Fiesta de Amistad for years to come and appreciate the understanding and flexibility of our Miss Del Rio Pageant contestants and volunteers as we navigate through these decisions.”
