Miguel Zuniga, 830Times Comstock correspondent reports that the Monarch Fire, located 35 miles north of Comstock in Val Verde County, is 90 percent under control.
The fire has burned 1,271 acres and has involved about 70 people, 6 bulldozers, 11 fire engines and 2 helicopters.
Firefighters think they have a line completely around it now. “We are still seeing lots of hot spots and interior burning. We did have a small spot fire yesterday afternoon which caused the fire to grow by 21 acres. We will continue to monitor, patrol and mop up,” said the one of the incident commanders.
