The Texas Department of Public Safety just released the following release about the fatal crash on State Loop 79 and FM 2523 March 9.
DEL RIO – THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (DPS) is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on March 09, 2023, at approximately 9:58 a.m., on State Loop 79 and FM 2523 in Val Verde County.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 silver Nissan Altima was evading from DPS troopers on Highway US 277 near mile marker 442 in Val Verde County. The Nissan continued northbound on US 277 traveling at a high rate of speed still refusing to stop. The Nissan approached the intersection of FM 2523 and State Loop 79 where it disregarded a stop sign at the intersection and collided with 2021 silver Ford Edge that was traveling south on State Loop 79.
Due to injuries sustained the rear passenger was ejected from the Nissan passenger car and as a result, Esequiel Franco-Garcia 28, from Mexico was pronounced deceased on scene.
DPS troopers will be investigating this fatal crash.
