Del Rio Police Department press release
On May 31, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Veterans Blvd. for a reckless driver.
The caller reported the vehicle was swerving in and out of traffic almost striking other vehicles. Police located the vehicle stationary in a parking lot at the 600 block of Veterans Blvd.
The vehicle was running and was occupied by the male driver identified as Edward Nathaniel Enrique Hernandez; 32 years of age. Hernandez was slumped over the wheel, officer attempted to make contact with the driver but were unsuccessful.
The officers accessed the door of the vehicle and asked Hernandez to exit but he refused to comply with police commands.
Hernandez resisted police and was taken to the ground in attempt to secure him in handcuffs. Police deployed the taser but had no effect on Hernandez. Hernandez was subdued and handcuffed by police with no further incident.
EMS was requested at the scene due to the taser deployment. EMS medically evaluated Hernandez at the scene, and no additional medical attention was required.
An arrest warrant inquiry revealed Hernandez had four active arrest warrants out of Val Verde Sheriff’s Office for the offenses of Harassment on a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence and Violation of Emergency Protective Order.
The four arrest warrants were confirmed with the issuing agency, and he was arrested for said warrants.
Hernandez was also arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest Search or Transport. He was transported to the police station for processing and was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
