NEWS — ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION WITH DRMS SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT

SFDRCISD Press Release

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, SFDRCISD received reports from parents of a social media posting, posing an active threat to students at Del Rio Middle School. SFDRCISD Police worked collaboratively with various agencies to identify the source of this posting. Through these efforts, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) linked the original threat to a DRMS student.

The SFDRCISD Police have now detained the DRMS student and is transferring the student to the Juvenile Justice System.

We share this information with you in effort to encourage continuous conversations between parents and students regarding the legal ramification of making any type of threat, especially social media threats. Social media threats often create fear and panic among students and parents, causing disruption to an entire school system. These threats will result in the most serious legal consequences.

We thank all of the law enforcement agencies who volunteered their time to increase the security and visibility of law and order at the Del Rio Middle School Campus. We especially thank the DPS officers who identified the origin of the post.
