The following incidents were among those reported recently to the Del Rio Police Department:
Burglary of a Vehicle
DRPD Officer Luis Gomez was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Waters Avenue at 9:28 a.m. Dec. 31 after police received a call about a motor vehicle burglary. When he arrived, he spoke with the resident, Reginaldo Acosta, who reported someone removed four 6.5 inch Dual speakers valued at $240 from the bed of his pickup truck while it was parked outside his residence. Acosta said he believed the speakers were stolen between 9 a.m. and 9:25 a.m. Dec. 31.
Home Burglary
DRPD Officer Michael Palmer was dispatched a residence in the 100 block of East Second Street at 1:08 a.m. Jan. 1 after police received a call about a home burglary. When he arrived, he spoke with the resident, Destiny Garcia, who told him she had left her house at 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 and returned at 12:50 a.m. Jan. 1 and discovered the burglary. Garcia reported several items were taken from her home, including a 72-inch Samsung television valued at $200, a 32-inch Roku television valued at $150, two 22-inch silver rims valued at $200, various auto accessories valued at $150, hair tools valued at $50, shoes valued at $200, cologne valued at $15 and three baseball caps valued at $120.
Building Damage
DRPD Officer Christian Lopez was dispatched to Beyond The Décor, 707 Ave. G, at 2:02 p.m. on Jan. 1 after the business owner found a bullet inside the business. When the officer arrived, he spoke with the owner, Alonso Palacio, and observed the spent round inside the establishment. Palacio said he noticed the bullet on the floor when he entered the business about 2 p.m. Jan. 1. He also reported a hole in the ceiling above the bullet and said he was last inside the business at 2 p.m. Dec. 31. Palacio said he had left the building in good condition. No dollar estimate of the damage to the building was given.
Counterfeit Bill
DRPD Officer Jorge Aguirre was dispatched to H-E-B, 200 Veterans Blvd., at 4:33 p.m. Jan. 1 after police received a report of a counterfeit $100 bill. When the officer arrived, he spoke with Joanna Gonzalez, an H-E-B asset protection employee, who said a man had used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for gas. She said the man had already left the premises. She said the cashier had not checked the bill immediately after the man offered it. The officer collected the bill to be forwarded to the U.S. Treasury Department.
Theft
DRPD Officer Christopher Lauritzen was dispatched to the Ramada Inn of Del Rio, 2101 Veterans Blvd., at 1 p.m. Jan. 2 after a guest at the business reported a theft from his room. When he arrived, Lauritzen spoke with the guest, identified as Joel Gomez, a resident of Midkiff, Texas, who said his son had money missing from his room. Gomez said the son reported a $100 bill in U.S. currency and a 500-peso bill in Mexico currency, as well as a pair of white headphones, were taken from his room. The headphones were later returned by housekeeping, who had removed them from the room thinking Gomez and his son had checked out. Gomez said he believed the theft of the two bills occurred between 9 p.m. Jan. 1 and 11 a.m. Jan. 2.
