City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On August 28th, 2024 at approximately 1045 hrs., a Del Rio Police Department officer met with a 72-year-old female wishing to report several transactions made on her credit cards without her knowledge or consent.
The victim told police she became suspicious of the activity after noticing her debt did not decrease even after making payments and not utilizing her cards. The credit card statement(s) revealed several unauthorized payments had been made to a local vehicle dealership by Elvia Rojas.
The victim did not have an open account with such dealership but recalled purchasing a vehicle from a salesperson by the name of Elvia Rojas two years prior when Rojas worked at a different local dealership. The victim contacted the credit card customer service line and learned an authorized user was added to her accounts earlier this year, such user was identified as Elvia Rojas. This action was possible by utilizing the victim’s identifying information.
The case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation. Detectives learned Rojas was currently employed at the dealership where the recent unauthorized payments were made. Detectives obtained an Arrest Warrant against Rojas and Search Warrant for her vehicle and residence.
On 09/16/2024, Detectives successfully executed the warrants, taking Elvia Rojas into custody with no incident. Elvia Daniel Rojas; 54 yrs. of age was arrested and charged with the offense of Exploitation of Elderly (One Count), and Credit Card Debit Card Abuse Elderly (3 Counts). Rojas was transported to the police station for processing, she was then transported to GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration process.
