City council has approved the reappointment of one member to the city’s board of adjustments
(BOA) and the appointment of another.
City council members approved resolutions for the two actions during their most recent meeting
on Tuesday.
According to a memo by City Planner Eivon Garcia included as part of the council’s
informational packet on the resolutions, the BOA is a group tasked with making decisions on
“variances, special exceptions and administrative reviews” pertaining to the city’s zoning
ordinances. The group meets once a month and consists of five members, each to be appointed
for a term of two years.
The first resolution was to approve the appointment of George Salinas, who was appointed as
an alternate member of BOA on July 8.
Councilman J.P. Sanchez made the motion to approve the resolution, and Councilwoman
Ernestina “Tina” Martinez gave the second.
Salinas is a retired real estate agent and had submitted an application to be an alternate
member of the BOA in July. As mentioned in his application, which was included with the
council agenda packet, Salinas said his experience can help with the “construction phase and
the building phase” of items that come to the BOA for consideration.
The second resolution was to approve the reappointment of Alejandro Pineda, who was
appointed as a member on May 8. In a memo submitted by Garcia about the appointment, she
noted Pineda expressed interest in “continuing to serve the community and being a regular
member (of the BOA).”
Councilman J.P. Sanchez made the motion to approve the resolution, and Councilman Jesus
Lopez Jr. gave the second.
Both resolutions were unanimously approved.
