UPDATE — As of 8 p.m., U.S. Highway 90 is now open.
A crash on U.S. Highway 90 just west of the Lake Amistad bridge has closed the roadway for several hours Wednesday, authorities said.
Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez said the road will be

closed for at least three hours after a tractor-trailer caught fire and burned. “The whole vehicle was engulfed in flames and burned to the ground,” he said. The driver was not hurt, according to initial reports.
Martinez and Rowland Garza, Val Verde County’s emergency management coordinator, said the cleanup is expected to take about three hours. “We hope it takes less, but it should be about three,” Martinez said.
The 830 Times staff will continue to update this story until the road is opened.
