A 12-year-old Del Rio boy died after he was struck by a bullet during a drive-by shooting Sunday night, and police are still looking for his killer.
According to a news release issued by the city just after 4 p.m. Monday, Del Rio Police Department officers were dispatched to the 400 block of San Juan Street at 11:37 p.m. Sunday after receiving a “shots fired” call.
“Upon arrival, officers found that several shots had been fired towards a residence, with one of those rounds striking and taking the life of a 12-year-old male,” the city’s release reads.
Police said the investigation into the fatal shooting of the child, whose name was not released, “is ongoing, and officers in conjunction with multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation.”
The boy was later identified by family members as Nate Anthony Rubio in a GoFundMe drive to raise monies to cover the cost of Rubio’s funeral expenses. Persons wishing to donate to the fund can do so at the following link: https://gofund.me/26615eee
As of Monday afternoon, more than $2,200 of the $5,000 goal had been raised.
The city’s release also states that anyone who wants to provide information about the incident and remain anonymous is asked to call detectives in the department’s criminal investigations division at 830-309-8770. Police noted there would be a reward for information leading to an arrest in the incident.
