Del Rio is once again bracing for a several days of bitterly cold nighttime temperatures,
with the city set to open a warming center tonight.
According to the National Weather Service’s forecast for the next seven days, nighttime
temperatures in Del Rio and the surrounding areas will drop into the 20s every night until
Friday.
The NWS is also forecasting a 40 percent chance of snow showers after midnight
Monday, during the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The city has announced it will open a warming center in the Cottonwood Room at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd., beginning at 6 p.m. today.
The warming center will remain open 24/7 until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
During this bout of cold weather, the city’s transportation center will be offering rides to
the warming center.
For rides to the warming center, Del Rioans are asked to call the following number
during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday: 830-774-8690. After
hours, from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Del Rioans are asked to calling the following
numbers: 830-347-0579 or 830-734-2168.
Cots and blankets will be provided, but guests are asked to bring any additional bedding
or necessities they may need. Essentials to bring include clothing, toiletries, food and
medications.
The city has also established a set of rules for the warming center.
No alcohol is permitted in the warming center. Games are allowed, but gambling is
prohibited, with no exchange of money or monetary transactions permitted.
Pets are welcome, but persons bringing in an animal must clean up after them.
No photos or videos are permitted inside the warming center.
The NWS is predicting a clear and cold night tonight, with the low temperature forecast
to be around 25 degrees.
The high Monday, MLK Day, is forecast to be 45 degrees, with a strong southeast wind
gusting to 25 miles per hour.
On Monday night, the NWS is calling for a 40 percent chance of snow showers after
midnight. It will be cloudy, with a low temperature of 29 degrees. Winds from the east
southeast will become north northeast winds after midnight, with gusts as high as 25
miles per hour.
Tuesday is forecast to be sunny, with a high temperature of 41 degrees. Tuesday night
will be clear also, with the low temperature expected to dip down to 22 degrees.
The high temperature Wednesday is forecast to be near 51 degrees, and the low on
Wednesday night is forecast to be 29 degrees.
Thursday will be sunny, with a high temperature near 58, and Thursday night will again
be clear, with a low temperature of 29 degrees.
