Val Verde Regional Medical Center announced the death of one of its newest surgeons Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Jonathan Hoskins, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, was found deceased Thursday morning in his home. Local authorities conducted a welfare check after he did not show up for work, hospital officials said.
Hoskins came to Del Rio in 2024 as part of the hospital’s expansion of orthopedic and specialty care services.
He specialized in orthopedic and sports medicine care, including treatment for sports injuries, fractures, joint pain and rehabilitation services.
The orthopedic surgeon worked with a number of Del Rio athletes during his two-year tenure in Del Rio and impacted Del Rio High School’s athletic program.
“Dr. Hoskins and the work he has done was such a great inspiration,” said Frenchy McCrea, DRHS athletic director. “He would come out to support athletics in whatever capacity needed whenever his busy schedule would allow.”
Before coming to Del Rio, Hoskins practiced medicine in New York and had more than 15 years of experience in orthopedic medicine.
