Del Rio set a new rainfall record for Oct. 1, breaking a previous record that stood for nearly a century.

In its climate report for Del Rio, posted at 7:56 a.m. today, the National Weather Service reported the Queen City received a total of 1.96 inches of rain between midnight and the reporting time.

The previous rainfall record for Oct. 1 was 1.69 inches and was set in 1927, the climate report indicates.

The National Weather Service’s report for Thursday, Sept. 30, shows that .32 inches of rain fell on Del Rio before midnight, bringing the total overnight amount of rain to 2.28 inches.

The rain came from thunderstorms in a line of storms moving northwest out of Mexico late Thursday. A chance of rain remains in the forecast for today and Saturday.
