Community members are invited to a skate-park design workshop at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at City Hall on 109 W. Broadway St.
The Del Rio Skate Park Community Design Workshop is hosted by
Skate Ecosystems LLC and will reveal concept designs for a new community skate park planned to be built at Severiano Perez Parkway area on the 895 West De La Rosa St.
The park is also being designed by Skate Ecosystems LLC, a skate planning, design and construction firm based out of Austin, Texas.
Shane Yee, chief design officer for Skate Ecosystems LLC, said the goal of the workshop is to get people’s input on which park design they think is best. He said the park will be referred to as the “Del Rio Skate Garden,” adding that it will be the first skate park of its kind in the U.S.
“It’s different from other skate parks in that we’re reducing the heat-island effect through the use of sustainable strategies such as voids and incorporating a native-plant pollinator garden,” Yee said.
Yee said they want community members, including skateboarders, scooterists and cyclists to come to the workshop and provide feedback during their open forum. He said the park is planned to be completed by Halloween of 2024.
“These aren’t the final designs, (the workshop) is just asking what you like out of these ones, and which you are leaning towards, and we’ll work on the final design of it,” Yee said.
