Well, Del Rio doesn’t know Jack…or at least their Jack in the Box restaurant closed down.
The city’s lone Jack in the Box restaurant, located at 100 Braddie Drive, permanently closed Aug. 2.
The facility was partially owned by San-Tex Restaurants based out of San Antonio, owner of 49 Jack in the Box restaurants across West Texas.
According to crews loading equipment in a truck from the restaurant Tuesday morning, the Del Rio location was one of five San-Tex has shuttered.
Calls to San-Tex’s San Antonio headquarters went unanswered.
According to Restaurant Dive magazine, the chain is plagued by a lack of growth across the country.
In April, the company announced that they will shutter 120 restaurants by the end of the year. San-Tex officials were unavailable to confirm if this was one of those 120, or just a failed restaurant on which a franchisee is cutting his losses.
The local restaurant has had at least one bump in the road, in addition to poor sales, as Del Rio’s location was closed during a February weekend due to a failed inspection.
City inspectors discovered a walk-in cooler wasn’t operating properly and food stored in the freezer was below the temperature required. See story here .
However, one city official said he was disappointed to see the restaurant close, but they have already had interest in the location from a national breakfast chain.
