A local woman’s day took an unexpected turn Wednesday when a quick trip to pick up lunch ended with her winning a new vehicle.

Denise Trevino, a married mother of two, was driving to Domino’s to grab a pizza when her phone rang from a number she didn’t recognize.

“I never answer those calls,” Trevino said later. However, she decided to pick up this time — a decision she’s now glad she made.

Unknown to Trevino, Jeep Del Rio had just drawn her name, and she was moments away from learning she had won a lime-green 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sport S.

Olga Owens, marketing manager for the Khoury Group, kicked off the event at 3611 Veterans Blvd., telling those gathered that the dealership had received more than 3,500 entries during its monthlong promotion.

Blanca Larson, president and CEO of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, drew the winning name from a bag containing all entries and

passed it to Owens, who handed it to Natalie Khoury, finance director at Jeep Del Rio.

“And the winner is, Denise Trevino,” Khoury announced.

The name was then passed to Pat Collins, general manager of Ram Country, who oversees Jeep Del Rio, and he placed the call to Trevino.

Collins asked Trevino if she could come to the dealership to begin paperwork. She agreed — though she made a quick stop first.

“I still didn’t think it was real and I wanted to make sure I had my lunch secured if it was a scam,” she said.

Even 30 minutes later, after sitting in the Jeep and answering questions from media members, Trevino said it still hadn’t fully sunk in.

After posing for photos with the vehicle, she realized she had forgotten one important step — telling her husband.

However, the drawing had been broadcast live on several local Facebook pages, and her husband, Carlos Trevino, had already heard the news and was on his way.

“I was working on a shed when friends started calling me telling me she’d won,” Carlos Trevino said.

To drive away with the Jeep, the Trevinos had to write a check to ensure Uncle Sam got his share, but after it sat in their driveway overnight, she’s starting to think the Jeep is actually hers.

“We are just very thankful to the Khoury group for this blessing,” Denise said.
