Del Rio’s Rebeka Chavez is headed off to college with one more award under her belt.

Chavez, a member of Del Rio High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter, was recently selected to receive a 2021 National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Scholarship valued at $1,000.

According to a release from FCCLA, in order to be considered to receive the $1,000 scholarship, all candidates’ applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee and winning recipients are selected based on their contribution and leadership within FCCLA, as well as their outstanding participating in NTHS.

She will be recognized on-stage and awarded the 2021 National Technical Honor Society Scholarship during the Recognition Session at FCCLA’s Hybrid National Leadership Conference, June 27-July 2 in Nashville.

Chavez was a four-year member of FCCLA. She held several leadership positions within the organization including 2020-21 Del Rio Ram Chapter President, 2019-2020 Del Rio Ram Chapter Vice President of Achievement, 2018-2019 Del Rio Ram Chapter 1st Vice President, and 2017-2018 Del Rio Freshman Chapter President.

In addition, Chavez was the Del Rio High School’s National Technical Honor Society President in 2020-21, National Honor Society Parliamentarian and Vice-Councilwoman for the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Program.

“FCCLA and NTHS hold a very special place in my heart! I am proud and honored to be the recipient and to represent Del Rio High School and San Felipe Del Rio CISD! Thank you so much to FCCLA and NTHS!” Chavez said.

Chavez plans on pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Nutrition at the University of Texas in Austin beginning this fall.

“Beka is a very special young lady who worked so hard for many years to carry out the mission and purposes of the organizations as an officer and during her senior year as president of both chapters. Beka made a lasting impression on the chapters and the upcoming officers and members. She is most deserving of this scholarship. As her advisor, she was a pleasure to work with on many of the projects and chapter business activities. I will miss her!” said Linda Corbell, her advisor.
