NEWS — Disturbance calls results in multiple charges

On April 11th, 2025, at approximately 7:22 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 800 block of East 6th Street for a disturbance in progress.

Upon arrival police learned a male identified as Fernando Paredez; 52 yrs. of age made forced entry into a residence by breaking the front door. The caller confronted Paredez resulting in an assault.

Police located Paredez walking in the area of 7th Street and Ricks Drive. The officer ordered Paredez to stop due to the ongoing investigation.

Paredez disregarded police commands and continued walking away.  The officer attempted to physically detain Paredez, but he pulled away and began walking towards incoming traffic on Bedell Avenue placing himself and others in danger as he continued to evade police on foot.

Paredez was taken to the ground where he was subdued and placed in handcuffs. Paredez was transported to the police station where he was booked in for the offenses of Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence, Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, and Burglary of Habitation with Intent to Commit a Felony.

Upon conducting an inquiry police learned Paredez had 11 (eleven) active arrest warrants out of Val Verde County Sherriff’s Office for the following offenses: Possession of Controlled Substance <1g (heroin), Theft >$100, Evading Arrest / Detention, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Trespass, Theft >$100< $750, Theft, Theft, Criminal Trespass, and Resisting Arrest.

Paredez also had 2 (two) active arrest warrants out of California for the offenses of Assault on a Public Servant, and Assault. All arrest warrants were confirmed with the issuing agencies and Paredez was arrested for the outstanding warrants as well.
