Shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, five Texas Department of Public Safety vehicles pulled into the parking lot of a local smoke shop and shut the facility down for the near future.
The officers raided the Star Smoke Shop, at 707 Ave. G., took
items out and eventually locked the doors.
Also on hand were investigators from 63rd Judicial District Attorney Suzanne West’s office.
West sent the following statement to The 830 Times: “Kudos to our law enforcement partners that work investigations to protect our community from sellers of dangerous and illegal drugs purposefully packaged to resemble normal candy that any
child would readily consume.”
After nearly an hour in the facility, the Del Rio Fire Department was asked to come and open a safe.
About half an hour after DRFD firefighters entered the business, DPS officials came out carrying three boxes, placed them in vehicles.
The 830 Times reporter on hand was told that the business’ employee on duty in the store at the time was taken into custody.
When DPS officers left, they were seen locking the facility’s doors.
