NEWS — Driver arrested for DWI and fleeing

The following information was provided by the Del Rio Police Department.

On March 30, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Del Rio Police Department officer was patrolling the area of E. 17th Street and Veterans Boulevard when he observed a white Nissan passenger vehicle traveling southbound at a speed higher than the posted limit.

The vehicle then entered oncoming traffic and ran a red light, creating a dangerous situation for other motorists.

The officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to yield and continued fleeing at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 1600 block of Avenue Q.

Upon contact, the driver — identified as Emilio Segovia, 17, and the sole occupant — was detained as he exited the vehicle. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Segovia’s person.

Segovia was administered standardized field sobriety tests, during which multiple clues of intoxication were observed. He was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.

A breath sample was obtained, indicating a blood alcohol concentration greater than 0.15.

Segovia was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and charged with fleeing a police officer and driving while intoxicated (BAC ≥ 0.15). He was later transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
