The November General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Del Rioans will be on the ballot in two races to elect regional representatives.

Independent candidate Frank Lopez Jr. of Del Rio and Democrat John Lira of San Antonio are both vying to unseat the Republican incumbent Tony Gonzales, also of San Antonio, as U.S. Representative, District 23.

Former Del Rio Mayor Robert Garza is the Republican Party nominee for State Senator, District 19. The incumbent, Democrat Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio, is seeking re-election.

Val Verde County races on the ballot include a three-way race for county judge. The incumbent, Democrat Lewis G. Owens Jr., has drawn two challengers: the Republican Party nominee, Arturo Rodriguez, and a write-in, Efrain Valdez.

Val Verde County Clerk Generosa “Janie” Ramon, who also serves as the election administrator, said the race for county judge will be decided by a plurality of votes and will not go to a runoff. The candidate who receives the most votes will win the election.

Ramon, a Democrat, is also on the November General Election ballot. She has drawn one opponent, Republican Teresa Esther Chapoy.

The incumbent District Clerk, Democrat Jo Ann Cervantes, also faces a Republican Party challenger, Fabby Aguilera.

Only one other county incumbent faces a contest in the November General Election.

The incumbent Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Pat Cole, a Republican, has drawn a write-in opponent, Juan Roberto Martinez.

The remaining candidates up for election this year are unopposed, and they are declared elected, according to the wording printed on the ballots. They are 83rd Judicial District Judge Robert E. Cadena, County Court-At-Law Judge Sergio J. Gonzalez, County Treasurer Aaron D. Rodriguez, County Surveyor Abner Martinez, County Commissioner Pct. 2 Juan Carlos Vazquez, County Commissioner Pct. 4 Gustavo “Gus” Flores, Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Treviño, Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Antonio “Tony” Faz III and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Hilda Castillo Lopez.
