NEWS — Early voting crosses 1,000 mark ahead of weekend push

Early voting turnout continued to fluctuate this week in Val Verde County, according to County Clerk Teresa Esther Chapoy.

Daily in-person totals were:

Tuesday — 177 Republican, 202 Democratic
Wednesday — 165 Republican, 186 Democratic
Thursday — 147 Republican, 162 Democratic

Across the three reporting days, a total of 1,039 ballots were cast in person, 489 Republican and 550 Democratic votes

All early voting by personal appearance is at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd.

Chapoy said she expects participation to increase over the weekend, when the polling station at the civic center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Early voting will continue 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, through Friday, Feb. 27.

As of Feb. 19, Chapoy said her office had mailed 243 absentee ballots — 85 Republican and 158 Democratic. Of those, 24 Republican ballots and 54 Democratic ballots had been returned.

Voters casting an early ballot in person must present one of the following forms of photo identification:

• Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety
• Texas election identification certificate issued by DPS
• Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
• Texas handgun license issued by DPS
• United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
• United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
• United States passport (book or card)

Voters must choose either the Republican or Democratic primary ballot. The parties’ candidates appear on separate ballots.

Election Day for the primary elections is March 3.
