Elodia “Loly” Garcia is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for the office of Val Verde County Tax Assessor Collector.

Garcia is the incumbent county tax assessor collector. She has drawn a challenger in the March 5 Democratic Party Primary Election. The winner of that contest will face the Republican Party nominee in the November General Election.

Garcia is a native of Del Rio. She attended local schools and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1979. She has also earned numerous certifications in property tax administration and property tax law. She speaks and writes fluently in both English and Spanish.

After high school, Garcia went to work for Domino’s Pizza as its assistant manager.

Garcia then went to work for the city of Del Rio as a clerk in its utility billing department and worked there for a year. She then moved to the workforce center in Del Rio, where she worked as a receptionist for a year.

In August 1999, Garcia went to work for the Val Verde County tax office and has worked there ever since. She was serving as the tax office’s chief deputy when she was elected county tax assessor collector in 2020.

Garcia describes herself as “a motivated administrative professional with over 40 year track record of an exceptional administrative career in fast-paced environments.”

“I am able to quickly master technology and different software programs. I am diplomatic and tactful with professionals and non-professionals at all levels. I am accustomed to handling sensitive, confidential records.

“I have a demonstrated history of producing accurate, timely reports and information for multiple superiors. I am flexible and versatile and able to maintain a sense of humor under pressure. . . I have excellent team-working skills,” she said.

Asked why Val Verde County voters should cast their ballots for her, Garcia said, “For the past 20 years, I have committed to the Val Verde County Tax Office as an employee in an impressive array of positions and responsibilities, and for the past three years as an elected official, as I approach new opportunities, it would be a pleasure to further grow in this already thriving department.”

“The current position I hold has demonstrated my ability to multi-task and handle confidential information in a fast-paced environment. Please allow me to assure you that I am eager and optimistic in moving the Val Verde Tax Department forward yet maintaining the same amount of professionalism and exceptional customer service I know we already have in our office.

“I am humbly asking that you re-elect me for a second term as your county tax assessor collector,” Garcia said.
