If you’ve wanted to run for the San Felipe Del Rio CISD Board of Trustees, you’ll get your chance to apply in January.
According to the school district, the candidate-filing period for the district’s school board elections begins Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 8 a.m. It will remain open on Friday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.
Packets can be picked up at the superintendent’s office at the school district’s Student Performance and Administration Building, 315 Griner St., or they can be accessed online through the school district’s school board elections webpage at https://www.sfdr-cisd.org/board-of-trustees/2022-school-board-election. There you will also find information on appointing a campaign treasurer, links to information from the Texas Association of School Boards, the Texas Secretary of State in regards to laws and procedures pertaining to school districts, voter registration information, and a link to the Texas Ethics Commission.
Board members serve at-large, meaning they can live anywhere within the school district. They are no precincts from which voters will choose their candidates. There are also no primaries, meaning there are no Democratic or Republican races before getting to Election Day on May 7.
There are four seats up for grabs in the upcoming elections – Place I, currently held by Ken Smith; Place III, currently held by Linda Guanajuato-Webb; Place IV, currently held by Raymond P. Meza; and Place V, currently held by Fred Contreras.
There are a total of seven spots on the board of trustees. The other three spots won’t be up for election until 2024.
