Del Rio is going to have several new ambassadors in a few months.
The annual Miss Del Rio Pageant has changed its presentation and will now crown five title-holders Oct. 9 at the Paul Poag Theatre for the Performing Arts. The pageant will still serve as the official kickoff the annual Fiesta de Amistad celebration.
According to Elsa Reyes, pageant co-director, this year marks the first year the pageant will have not only the Miss Del Rio Teen, for girls ages 14 to 18, and Miss Del Rio, ages 19 to 26, but the pageant will also crown a Little Miss Del Rio, for girls ages 6 to 8; a Junior Miss Del Rio, for ages 9 to 11; and a Pre-Teen Miss Del Rio, for girls ages 12 to 14.
“The winners in each category will be recognized as the ‘official court’ and will represent the City of Del Rio as the official ambassadors of the city,” a release from pageant organizers read.
The deadline to register has been extended. Girls and women interested in competing can register up to Sept. 7, which is also the first day of practice for the pageant.
This year’s pageant will also serve as the official end of the current queens’ reigns. The reigning Miss Del Rio Teen is Isabella Levrie while the reigning Miss Del Rio is Elaine Oyama. Both were crowned in January, three months later than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused several events to be canceled or postponed in 2020.
