As rains continue to come down, Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office deputies are turning east-bound traffic around at Laughlin Air Force Base.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Val Verde County until 11:30 a.m. Thursday, warning that life-threatening flash flooding is occurring or expected as heavy rain continues to move across the area.
The warning includes Del Rio, Laughlin Air Force Base, Val Verde Park, Cienegas Terrace, Amistad Village, Governors Landing, Rough Canyon Recreation Area and several other communities near Lake Amistad.
According to the National Weather Service, radar indicated 1 to 3 inches of rain had already fallen in the warned area by early Thursday morning, with additional rainfall of 3 to 6 inches possible. Forecasters said rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour could produce dangerous flash flooding of creeks, streams, highways, streets and low-water crossings.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for Val Verde County through Thursday evening as additional rounds of heavy rain are expected.
The most severe flooding Thursday morning was occurring east of Del Rio in Uvalde County, where emergency officials were responding to widespread flooding and water rescues.
