If you have appointments in San Antonio today, you might want to reschedule.
Heavy rainfall across South Central Texas has forced the closure of several roads between Del Rio and San Antonio, prompting officials to urge motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.
Among the most significant closures are U.S. 90 between Knippa and Sabinal and portions of U.S. 83 in Uvalde County, where floodwaters have made the highways impassable. Officials in Medina, Bandera and Kerr counties have also closed numerous county roads because of high water as rain continues to fall across the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch through Thursday for much of South Central Texas, warning that additional rainfall could produce life-threatening flash flooding and lead to more road closures.
While no major road closures have been reported because of the Pecos River, the National Weather Service has warned that rivers, creeks and low-water crossings across Southwest Texas could rise rapidly as runoff from the storms moves downstream.
Motorists traveling between Del Rio and San Antonio are encouraged to check road conditions before leaving and should never drive through flooded roadways or around barricades.
