The death of an inmate in the Val Verde Correctional Facility is under investigation, Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez confirmed Saturday.
Martinez told the 830 Times in a telephone interview the deceased inmate has been identified as Keegan Killin, 21, of Del Rio.
Family members told the 830 Times Killin had been incarcerated in the facility since late 2020 on a federal human smuggling charge.
Martinez said an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause and manner of Killin’s death, adding the incident remains under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
