On 09/11/2023 the Del Rio Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was assigned a case regarding a stolen phone. On 01/16/2024 Detectives learned the victim recovered a picture of a female juvenile who was in possession of his stolen phone.
Upon further investigation, Detectives discovered such phone had been utilized by the female juvenile to engage in sexually explicit communication with an adult male subject. The phone content included sexually explicit photographic and video material shared between the female juvenile and a male adult. Evidence in the phone also corroborated the male’s attempt to solicit the minor.
Detectives identified the female juvenile and the adult male as Alejandro Yahvet Avila; 28 yrs. of age. Detectives discovered Avila also has an open sexual related investigation with the VVSO Investigators. A joint investigation was initiated between the agencies. Avila being a current law enforcement officer not associated with DRPD or VVSO, was located at a Federal Training Academy in New Mexico. Avila’s phone was recovered and submitted as evidence for further examination.
On 03/07/2024 Avila was tracked back to Del Rio where he was arrested for the offense of Online Solicitation of a Minor by the Del Rio Police Department. This is an open investigation as Detectives have reason to believe there is a possibility of additional victims.
